Azerbaijan Test Fires Buk-MB

Azerbaijan has carried out test firings of its modernized Buk-MB air-defense systems.

The Azeri Defense Ministry told APA that tests of the Buk-MB had been successfully carried out.

The Azeri media outlet reported, "During the execution of tasks in the conditions of complex electronic warfare jamming, air defense units have detected and taken for tracing the high-speed, small-sized air targets of the conventional enemy and destroyed them with practical missile firings."

Video of the testing was released, showing the modernized system firing missiles during the tests.
Azerbaijan has contracted with Russia and Belarus regarding its Buk-MB modernization program. Since 2010, the Azeri military has transferred several battalions to Belarus for the modernization. Some battalions have since been returned for active duty in Azerbaijan.

A source in Belarus' OKB TSP company told IHS Jane's in May 2017 that modernization of Azeri Buks was currently ongoing.

The source added, "However, Belarus is upgrading only the systems with the use of Russian-made components. The missiles are supplied to Azerbaijan by the Rosoboronexport company."
