Russia Inks Armored Vehicle Contract With Iraq

Russia has signed a 'major contract' for the supply of armored vehicles to Iraq.

Tass News Agency reported on August 24, 2017 that it had been informed by the director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Dmitry Shugayev, of the contract.

Shugayev declined to discuss the financial side of the deal or reveal what armored vehicles the two had agreed to.

Shugayev said, "A major contract for the supply of armored vehicles has been concluded with Iraq. I believe it is too early to disclose the range of contracted products and the timing of deliveries."

Earlier, UralVagonZavod disclosed in its 2016 annual report that it had received a contract to supply 73 T-90S main battle tanks to Iraq. This shipment, due to occur "soon" according to the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, will be the first of several.

It was not immediately clear if Shugayev referred to the T-90 contract or if he was referencing a separate sale of vehicles to Iraq.
